Fix Up Look Sharp Launch Party

Last Wednesday evening I met up with my friend Leanne and fellow blogger Mrs Ship Shape to make our way (desperately holding down our dresses after a few embarrassing moments involving the windy weather) to CLIC Sargent charity shop on Gloucester Road, Bristol, ready for the launch party of Fix Up Look Sharp.

Fix Up Look Sharp is not only the title of British Rapper Dizzie Rascal's single but a clever name of an upcycled creative collection by the Fashion Design graduate duo Ruth Strugnell and Gemma Pope. Their aim is to use donated clothes that fail to sell in the charity shop due to large sizing creating an unflattering fit or tiny sizes that female figures will struggle to fit into. During their design process they decided it was key to create panelled garments to use as much of the original garment as possible. For example, bralets are a perfect solution as the pattern cutting and manufacture of this type of clothing primarily consists of small intricate pieces.

Their colour palette and fabric use is limited as the girls work with what is on offer, which is challenging yet fun in creating unique, exclusive items. Recycling and sustainable fashion is an important element of the designers goals as no scrap of fabric is wasted. A great achievement!! Taking inspiration from subjects that are closely matched to their own looks such as street style and festival fashion. Bralets, backless tie tops, bodycon skirts and leggings make up their collection. An alteration service is on offer for anyone who falls in love with a garment but maybe needs little adjustments to suit their body shape.

CLIC Sargent is a charity for children and young people battling cancer. Whilst at the launch party there was an opportunity for everyone to browse the shop's donated stock and purchase items they fell in love with. It is such an important charity as the money is helping families facing an extremely difficult time in their lives.

Here are a selection of images taken by photographer Emillie Hawes. Located in the bowling bar venue, The Lanes, model Bianca Edwards captures the street edge perfectly by posing in front of an array of graffiti art backdrops, with some fierce attitude!!! Go girl!!

To create an exciting celebration, cute cupcakes were on offer whilst tapping your foot to some great tunes and admiring artists creating some fantastic artwork on CLIC Sargent's shop wall.

Why not stop by on your way up Gloucester Road and have a little rummage through Fix Up Look Sharp's creations??? A great way of finding a new look and giving to charity at the same time. I sure will be : )

I've got nothing to wear!

Is it time to de-clutter your wardrobe?
Clearing out your wardrobe can save you time and bags of money!

“I have nothing to wear” is a comment many women make when they open their wardrobe. 9 out of 10 clients tell us they have many items in their wardrobe they never wear. Sound familiar?

Before you move your summer items out and your winter items in, the turn of the season is a good time to de-clutter. You may have heard of the capsule wardrobe, this concept works well if you want your wardrobe to work for you.

All you need to do is take a few tips to get started.

Allow yourself a couple of hours. Pull everything out of the wardrobe. As you do, justify each item and it’s reason for being in there.
Does it need to be there? How often do you wear it?

Put the items in to one of three piles:
To Keep: You wear these items often or know of an occasion you will
To Go: Now you’ve pulled them out of the wardrobe, you know they’ve had their day!
Unsure: Don’t spend too long thinking about which pile to put the items in, if you really can’t decide or want to keep the item but not sure why, put them in this pile

Next...put all of your ‘To Keep’ items back in the wardrobe in order of type (bottoms together, tops together etc). Try clothes on as you go to help you find new outfits you wouldn’t normally choose in a rush, this is often the only time you’ll do this and when your wardrobe is in good order, you’ll find it much easier to select a different outfit each day rather the the same things over and over again.

Then, go to your ‘Unsure’ pile and be brutal in your decisions to keep or ditch the item.

Finally, put the pile ‘To Go’ in a bin liner out if sight and decide which good home you would like it to go to. Consider having a clothes party, giving it to charity or if you’re creative make something you will wear!

It takes a little practice putting outfits together but will always save you time on the day you want to wear it if you plan ahead. To inspire you, below are a few ideas of using just one item in different ways. Apply this to many items in your wardrobe and you’ll be on your way to a capsule wardrobe opening the doors to

“ What shall I wear today?”

Put on Your Dancing Shoes!!

If you want to recreate the excited feeling of Christmas morning in August, then eBay is the perfect shopping experience for you! I was looking for the perfect pair of high heels to replace my tired, worn out dancing shoes that have accompanied me on countless nights out.

Searching on eBay I found a beautiful pair of heels, originally from Topshop and go by the name of Sinitta. I opted for the cream version as I loved the contrast to the black chunky heel. The ruffle that leads to the peep toe adds interest and the bold, solid lines create a feminine yet fierce edge. They are delicious : )

I managed to win the bid at £14.50 with a delivery charge of £6.00. So in total I owned my new pair of dancing shoes for a fantastic price of £20.50 (look at my maths there!). A bargain when the retail price was £60! Surprisingly, they arrived two days later, which sparked an over excited run down the stairs at the sound of the flat buzzer. Luckily no one saw me in my pyjamas, which were stylish of course! The Sinitta's have already had a trial run and I was well prepared with party feet and plasters galore. I arrived home with only one blister! Good going for their first night out!

eBay is a great way of recycling fashion and de-cluttering your wardrobe. I enjoy finding treats that are no longer are available in the shops, that have been loved but are ready for a new home. It's the modern version of jumble sales and car boots, a great tool to find vintage items at affordable prices. Be warned it's very addictive!

An item for every womans wardrobe...

One of my favourite items of clothing is my leather jacket from River Island two years ago. It's a little worn with age which adds to the style and gets just as many compliments as it did when I purchased it. I opted for one of my favourite neutral colours: Taupe. Since it's been worn a lot lately due the lack of summer sun, I've been on the lookout for another style to add to the wardrobe. The Karen Millen jacket caught my eye at first to inspire me to share...take a look at how versatile it is!

Not only this, I wanted to share other styles that are just as versatile and a stylish look for almost everyone. A leather jacket is a must in the wardrobe and one item that can be dressed in so many ways...

It's worth investing that little extra to make sure you get a lot more from your jacket!
