SouthGate's Social Stylist: Alex Noble

Are you following SouthGate's Social Stylist
Earlier this year, fashionista's and shoppers of SouthGate Bath were asked to enter a competition explaining why they've got style giving them the perfect opportunity to tell everyone about it, winning a fantastic prize too!

5 winners were given a brief for a shopping challenge along with a great budget and no restrictions; they were caught on camera during their time to spend this budget in any store at SouthGate for a specific occasion. Following this they have the added challenge of taking over the social content for SouthGate on Facebook too. No pressure then!

With only 4 weeks left, there is one more winner to reveal. However, for the next 2 weeks, Alex Noble will be inspiring you with her creative, daring yet chic style following her challenge to find the perfect 'Spring Summer' and 'BBQ Chic' outfits.

Alex tells us what she thought of her challenge...

“I was at uni working for a stressful deadline when I got the phone call from Southgate about being selected as one of the social stylists. Talk about a dream phone call..I honestly had to pinch myself! Although my degree isn’t fashion related I have always been a style fan since I can remember always reading every magazine I could get my hands on. Today I am an avid pinterest and intagram fan and both websites provide me with a wealth of sartorial inspiration!

I was thrilled at the prospect of a spending spree at Southgate as there is so much brand variety it seems you can find anything amongst the collective rails. My favourite Southgate shopping destinations are Urban Outfitters, All Saints, 71 Queens, Kurt Geiger, Calvin Klein underwear and Topshop so these were the places I wanted to make a beeline for.

On the day of the Style Challenge I met with the Southgate team where Personal Stylist Emmeline informed me I had a total of £375 to spend. Easily the best news I’ve heard all year!!

The first shop we went to was Topshop. After ten minutes of separating, Emmeline and I had between us picked up about half the shop’s stock. Very efficient shopping! Being a confident shopper and knowing my style I was drawn to bold pieces in this store and amongst my items were basketball vests and lime green/grey tie dye dress.

A short while later in the changing room I decided on a neon pink tailored jacket over a bandeau ‘cats-eyes’ bikini with formal joggers. I thought this outfit would be perfect for a day to night bbq as it’s both smart and casual especially in our recent heatwave. I particularly love the current bare midriff trend so thought this day would be the perfect opportunity to experiment...particularly with Emmeline on hand to give styling advice.

After Topshop, Emmeline and I headed to All Saints. All Saints is always a first port of call when looking for day or night wear. The brief for this outfit was to select a perfect spring/summer look. There were so many statement pieces in store that took my breath away! I came across some fabulous embellished shorts and light summer jumpers in unusual textures and patterns. After falling in love with the shorts I was delighted that they worked with a great animal print knit. I love to mix patterns and unexpected textures which is why I loved this look so much I knew it would work for the challenge.

My experience as one of the Southgate stylists has been super enjoyable so far and truly once in a lifetime! I’m really looking forward to wearing my new clothes this season and posting content about my style to inspire others”

Vivienne Westwood A/W 14

Vivienne Westwood's Anglomania Style Guide caught my attention whilst I was reviewing the new collections available for Autumn/Winter 2014. I love the quirky nature and sense of humour that translates through her interpretation of fashion.

What is your opinion of Vivienne Westwood's prediction for the winter season?

The Friday Girl's Picks; Colour Block Heels

Happy Friday Everyone!
The weekend is nearly upon us, how exciting! This week, I've picked colour block heels which are really hot right now. These lovely heels can excite the simplest outfit without looking to statement and in your face. Perfect if you feel like you need something extra but you aren't too keen on the neon brights trend or if prints aren't really your thing. Even though the Autumn/Winter collections are coming out, it's still feeling summery to me. But to help with the transition from season to season, a lot of these picks are great colours for both seasons. The monochrome mixed with this great terracotta orange hue will walk you straight from late Summer into Autumn... until it's too cold to have your toesies out anyway!

1. River Island
2. Dune
3. River Island
4. Dune
5. Littlewoods

Hope you liked my picks this week, I've got my eye on those River Island barely there sandals. Love the yellow detailing! Until next week...

Classic like Kate...

So with the royal baby buzz having reached its final dizzying heights this week, we can all now relax safe in the knowledge that baby George is finally at home with mum and dad. But as we all know Kate is no ordinary mother. With the worlds eyes constantly upon her every move she makes is noted and this goes for her style too. With a tendency to keep it chic and classic, Kate has become quite the style icon. If you fancy adding a bit of this style to your wardrobe here is my pick of the Top Three Topshop dresses that display a similar classic edge, whilst remaining playful and feminine.

With lace, florals and collars often seen on Kate, the edge comes in the colour and the cut. Often sticking to fitted pieces, the Duchess also likes to accessorise with hats, heels and clutches. Classic, feminine, fabulous.

For help in working this style into your wardrobe why not use a stylist. Get in touch to arrange a consultation today.

Until next time,

Only 5 weeks remaining...

Are you following SouthGate's Social Stylist
Earlier this year, fashionista's and shoppers of SouthGate Bath were asked to enter a competition explaining why they've got style giving them the opportunity to tell everyone about it winning a fantastic prize too!

5 winners had a style challenge with a good budget, they were caught on camera and have taken over the social content for SouthGate. With only 5 weeks left, there are 2 more winners to reveal. Currently Jessica Robinson is on her 2nd week of the take-over and she tells us how she felt about her prize...

It was a total honour to have won SouthGate's Social Stylist competition and to be recognised as a stylish individual. On arrival I was given two themes to hop for within my budget, Spring Summer and Summer Festival. The Festival theme was perfect as I was lucky enough to get a ticket for Glastonbury Festival. Having yet not brought anything, this was a great opportunity to buy some key pieces.
Firstly, we went to TopShop where the shop was filled with summer attire. I have never been able to buy whatever I wanted from TopShop so the first few minutes I just let everything sink in! A floral midi skirt caught my eye first with its subtle colours and vintage pattern. I like to clash prints so I picked a striped crop top to wear with it for my summer outfit. I tried on a great selection of clothes that both Emmeline and I chose separately, it was really difficult to decide my favourite pieces to make my outfits. Too much choice!

TopShop always have a great selection of shoes and  for summer I chose a pair of tan wedges - I like to keep things minimalistic and felt the classic wedge would be perfect for a variety of outfits. I also chose a simple TopShop Boutique navy silk dress as soon as I saw it I knew I had to have it. It gave me the feel of 'Kate Moss' I had this style in mind for my festival outfit and didn't stop there….I picked up a gold necklace with a turquoise stone. My birthstone is turquoise so I'm always drawn to anything with it in. The necklace is perfect for everyday and since buying it I haven't taken it off.

Finally we visited Urban Outfitters another of my favourite stores, I still had money left in my budget so I was able to buy a few extras. I was in desperate need of some sunglasses and urban outfitters selection didn't disappoint. I decided a circular frame and turtle shell pattern style would work with my festival outfit. Hair products are pretty limited at any festival so I was on the look out for a hat. I found a great floppy weaved hat, perfect for covering any bad hair day! Finally, being a huge lover of anything nautical I picked out a long sleeved striped top perfect with shorts, jeans or a skirt; a classic tee I could layer with.

I had such a great day and the entire team were so kind. It's definitely an experience I won't forget. I hope you enjoy reading my posts and you're inspired by what you read.
Until then,
Jess x

The Barbie Debate!

Here at The Image Consulting Company our stylists love providing style advice for every body shape. In my research, I came across this interesting image of the famous Barbie doll with a version that demonstrates how the iconic doll would look if she had a body shape that reflected a woman's true representation of the female form.

What are your thoughts?

A genius invention that does not present a false perception or Barbie is simply a children's toy that does not intend to influence children's ideas of a woman's figure?

A Summery Scarf...

With the UK currently experiencing a long overdue heat wave, it's tempting to want to wear as little as possible. Furthermore, this could mean simplifying your outfits to create more basic looks. Whilst there is nothing wrong with this do remember that the addition of a well placed accessory can instantly lift any look from drab to fab! Adding personal style and individuality. With the high street offering an extensive range of lightweight, summery scarves this season. I have selected my top three for your effortless consideration.

This linen scarf from Zara is practically weightless and adds a welcome pop of colour to any summer time look.

Perhaps this herringbone weave scarf from H&M is more your style. It's mix of cool metallics makes it both versatile and super stylish.

However for the more playful dressers this Peter Werth design from Topman could be just the ticket. It's classic design and bold print set it as a timeless piece that can be incorporated into many looks.

So there are 3 of my high street summer scarf faves! If you want help in modifying your personal style why not get in touch to arrange a consultation?

Until next time however, get out in that sun:)

The Friday Girl: A Big Hello & My Summer Clutch Picks

Happy Friday Everyone!
Just to introduce myself as a new blogger, my name is Allie & I'm the newest member of The Image Consulting Company team!

Today I thought I'd just introduce myself and we'd have a little look at some Summer clutches. I don't know about you but during Summer, I don't like to lug my huge tote bag around with me. In Winter, it's great, you can use it as a wind shield, it holds all your extra socks, umbrellas and cough sweets! But in Summer when all you need is your tinted lip butter, some sunnies and your purse a clutch is definitely the way forward.

All you need for the Summer is bright colours, aztec prints, beading, embellishments and embossing. These things all brought together on your arm; summer bag heaven.
1. Accessorize
2. Primark
3. Boticca
4. Matalan

Hope you enjoyed my picks!

SouthGate Social Style Competition: Rosie Franklin

On Monday we told you about Rosie Franklin - Social Style winner for SouthGate's Style Challenge.
If you missed out, check out her video here.

Rosie has been working hard to bring you the best of her style through Facebook, make sure you take a look and 'LIKE' the SouthGate page for an up to date style fix.
In the meantime, read about her experience...

"I was incredibly excited about becoming a Social Stylist; not only was my style being called cool, I was also given £160 to add two new outfits to my collection of clothes! I was given the theme of ‘Summer Nights’ and my ideal ‘Spring/Summer’ outfit. My second cousin is getting married in August, so I figured it would be a great opportunity to combine my Spring Summer outfit for her wedding. I wasn’t too worried about being followed by cameras for the entire day: my philosophy & ethics teacher told my mother the week before that ‘Rosie would be a good TV presenter. She’s so calm. It’s just a shame her skirts are so short.’
Firstly, we embarked on my first ever trip to ’71 Queens’, a shop in little Southgate that stocks both up-and-coming brands and a range of vintage items. I had never ventured into the shop before and was impressed with the concept of new and old being combined in a high-street-type shop. I tried on several items, but my favourite had to be the ‘Winnie-the-Pooh’ dungarees. I base a lot of my clothing choices around nostalgia, so seeing something so childish made me smile and feel like a five year old again, despite being 5ft 10!
Visiting Debenhams was next on my list of ‘Rosie’s Favourite Shops’, in particular the ‘H! by Henry Holland’ brand. I had mentioned that I was influenced a lot by Japanese ‘Manga’ cartoons, so when we caught sight of a tie-waist dress covered in wide-eyed, multi-coloured faces it was perfect for my Spring Summer outift. A fabulous Matthew Williamson neon bag caught my eye too and looked perfect with the outfit teamed with a pair of floral, peep-toe pumps. Something I see myself wearing all summer through.
I LOVE socks and had mentioned the ‘Wall of Socks’ in Topshop to the team endlessly, so seeing it became mandatory. It did not disappoint. As well as picking three pairs of frilly, colourful socks, I spotted a beautiful salmon-pink, lacy dress that was just perfect for my ‘Summer Nights’ outfit and for my special occasion. Not only did my budget stretch to the ideal dress, my love for accessories was further fulfilled with a navy-blue and white-spotted bow headband, great for any outfit.
New Look was the final shop of the day and I needed one last thing; a pair of shoes to go with my dress. Emmeline challenged me with 10 minutes to find some shoes while she did the same. Once time was up, we compared notes and Navy pumps came out on top!
My outfits were completed. All that was left was to model the results. I have a slight vain streak, so being told to pose for photos was incredibly fun!
I enjoyed the entire experience so much and hope that you enjoy reading through my posts that will be coming over the next couple of weeks"

Until then....
Rosie
