Bristol Fashion Weekend SS14: Overcoming Common Problem Areas

At Bristol Fashion Week this weekend, a really common problem that we came across is that many women are having trouble finding trousers and jeans that really fit well. Common issues were that they can fit in the legs but the waist would be too big and vice versa. 

This is where we need to think like men and visit a tailor! Men get their suits and trousers tailored all the time and it's a great way to really get something to fit your shape, perhaps a blouse that you love that fits perfectly in the bust but is a little big around the waist and body can be taken in to create a really nicely fitting garment. Chances are you'll wear the item more than you do now, so essentially it's an investment into your own wardrobe! 

Many people have the preconception that this is a really expensive option but taking up a pair of jeans or trousers normally costs around £10. This is a bargain to think that you'll have a near-on custom made pair of jeans.

The Friday Girl Went; Bristol Fashion Week Live Blogging #BFWAW13

I was invited to blog 'live' from the Bristol Fashion Week A/W 13 show last week! The show was great, as always and I love how they use a range of models, from young and petite right through to the gorgeous Grace, the plus sized model and the stunning mature models like Denise.

As usual, Andrew Barton & Mark Heyes were on top form and their witty banter keeps you going between scenes. Here are a few snaps from the day, I hope you like them!

This was the London Calling, punk and rebel inspired theme with fashions from River Island.

Bristol Fashion Week Round-Up! #BFWAW13

So, the whirlwind of Bristol Fashion Week is over and it's time to have a sit down and a cup of tea. Right? Well it's probably more likely back to the hustle and bustle of the styling world but we had a great few days over at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway!

We were offering quick 10-15 minute style and colour consultations to the lovely women of Bristol. We were also giving 20% off full consultations that were booked during BFW.

We had some great questions and we'll be putting together some posts in the future answering a lot of them! We had a problem jar where women could write down their main issues with clothes or style so we could answer them for other people on the blog as opposed to just them at the event.

This is our lovely set-up with Leyla doing one of our first colour consultations of the weekend.

This Hobbs jacket was a firm favourite with loads of the ladies that we saw, the mustard colour was perfect for warm toned, dark haired ladies and the cut was beautiful.

The Friday Girl's Picks; Brand Focus: Whistles

This week, I thought I'd do a little bit of a brand focus post inspired by a recent shopping trip that we took in prep for Bristol Fashion Week. Emmeline and I were in John Lewis and were totally wowed by the new Whistles collection. They seem to have just got everything right this season and I could have literally bought everything. Here are a few of my favourite picks.

I absolutely love the cut and the drape of Whistles clothes, that classic boxy shift dress or top is one of my staple shapes in my wardrobe and they always hit it bang on. I also love their clutches, they always look so sharp and well made.

Upfest Street Art

On Sunday I set out to hunt down the street art from Upfest -  Europe's largest live street art festival located in various venues across Bedminster, Bristol along with my boyfriend Andy. Aided by the glorious sun we were able to locate the creative visions of talented artists travelling from over 15 countries and all over the UK.

Which one is your favourite?? Mine is either the Ship Shape and Bristol Fashion piece. I was amazed by the large size and detailing of the iconic saying that makes reference to Bristol's floating harbour or the two antelope's hanging animals on a washing line. I also really enjoyed the clever way a dragon was created by a artistic map of Bristol.

I am looking forward to next year although I am hoping to not get stopped by the Police for taking a photograph of the Ship Shape and Bristol Fashion piece - of course a misunderstanding due to it being situated next to a bank.

Fancy Frilly Knickers at Flo-jo Boutique

There are many reasons why I spend most of my free time wandering down Gloucester Road in Bristol. The charity shops become more intriguing, the independent coffee shops become friendlier and the vintage shops and boutiques become more interesting and creative. I have recently discovered another cute little boutique that has opened along the unique and inspiring road.

Flo-jo Boutique is divided into two rooms. One is dedicated to holding their unique knicker making and sewing parties, where with the help of vintage furniture and a dozen sewing machines you have everything you need to get creative.  You can either stop for a sewing session with expert advice or book in for a bunting making workshop. This is an ideal opportunity for your hen parties, a birthday extravaganza or just an afternoon with the girlie’s. The workroom has a great vintage feel and a comfortable and friendly environment to work in. You will be spoilt for choice for the selection of lace and trimmings to create the perfect pair of frilly fancy knickers like these.

The adjacent room is Flo-jo’s own haberdashery. Continuing with the vintage feel they present lace, fabrics, buttons, elastic and sooo much more. Basically, everything you need to create new pieces or re-invent items from your wardrobe. The haberdashery is displayed in such a way that you won’t want to leave! I certainly didn’t! I could have stayed there for hours searching through all the pretty lace and cute buttons.

So, if you are on Gloucester Road make sure you pop into Flo-jo Boutique. You can’t miss the light blue colour of the store and the enticing window display. I am warning you though, you won’t want to leave!!!
