How to Survive Glastonbury in Style!

Rain, mud, thunder, mud sunshine and more mud was the tricky style situation at Glastonbury this year, our stylist Amy recalls! The constant change in weather however, didn't dampen her spirits as she danced to her favourite bands and trecked across the fields - even when her floral vintage cardigan became a victim to the mud! The main reason is that she was very prepared and embraced the situation.

Here is her top tips for surviving Glastonbury (or any other festival) in style:
  • Pack the essentials - waterproof, wellies, wet wipes, suncream, hairbrush, dry shampoo, make up and of course a floral hair garland!
  • Take a backpack that can hold the items you need whilst not at the tent.
  • Layer! With the change in weather you will be constantly adding to or elimating items to your outfit.
  • Wear clothing that is easy to wash as no matter how careful you are, other people are not. You will be guaranteed to be splashed by mud on various occasions - black tights/leggings are a great barrier. The cardigan in question is drying as we speak!
  • Embrace the mud as their is no escape!
  • Carry an umberella as at heavy downpours you will be extremely grateful.
  • Make up is great for hiding tired eyes and providing a refreshed look.
  • A picnic blanket with a plastic side/camping chair is great for giving your legs a rest from walking in your wellies.
  • Do wear clothes you like however, not items that will leave you devastated if they get ruined.
  • Drink plenty of water to keep you hydrated and eat regulary to provide the much needed energy.

The Ultimate Survival Guide to Living in England

The weather in England is extremely difficult to predict with sunshine rays filling the sky one minute to heavy downfalls the next. We appreciate that it is worrying getting dressed in the morning as your sandals exposing your toes could be the next victim of an unexpected drench. Ruining your beautiful shoes or perfectly curled hair is not the best way to start the day! Don't worry we have all been there, so our stylists have compiled a survival guide to living in England.............with style!!!
  • Always carry an umbrella in your handbag to prepare for those sporadic downfalls.
  • Wear layers, which can be easily removed depending on the climate. A small cardigan can slip underneath a blazer or jacket to add extra warmth.
  • Carry a brush, grips and bobble to tidy up your hair from the harsh wind.
  • A small sample of make up can brighten up your face if your morning appliance has started to disappear.
  • Ankle boots are extremely versatile and can be worn with Summer outfits, so if you feel that the weather may change opt for a sturdy boot over a sandal. If you have room pack a pair of alternative shoes or leave them in the car if parked near by.
  • Invest in a large size bag that can carry your survival guide essentials or a fold away lightweight tote to spread the load.
  • Pack a pair of sunglasses to look extra chic on those rare sunshine moments.
  • A pack of tissues or wipes are very useful to solve those fashion weather mishaps.

Master The Art of Layering

The transitional season is beginning to slowly approach with one telling sign - the weather!!! The heavy sporadic showers clash with the beautiful sunshine rays leaving many confused and unsettled on how to dress for that days adventure. Layering is the key to surviving the ever changing climate providing depth and originality as well as a practical element to your wardrobe.

  • Start with thinner layers building up to heavier items e.g. wear a cotton tee followed by a cute sweater, finishing with a thick blazer or leather jacket.
  • The cotton layer is close to the skin allowing for breathability whereas the jacket provides a shield from the elements.
  • The jacket or sweater can be removed at the hotter moments and then replaced when the cold wind appears.
  • Wear with a pair of trousers, skirt or shorts or even use a dress as your base layer. Remember to add tights and socks during the colder months.
  • An umbrella should be a permanent resident in your bag to avoid being drenched in the downpour. In addition, a hat, scarf and gloves are useful essentials to add warmth to your well styled outfit. As Spring approaches the weight of the scarf and hat can become lighter to reflect the climate. (This can relate to the thickness of your clothing too).
  • The art of layering can see you through from day to evening with a careful selection of pieces.
  • Experiment with a variety of textures, prints and colour to create a fun look, which will allow you to brave the day in style.
  • To complete your outfit add a pair of stylish, chic boots to keep your feet warm during this season. Remind yourself of our How To Wear Ankle Boots post.
